Got Your Nursing License Now What?

So now you are licensed as and RN and ready for work. By now you should have an idea of what area of health care you want to work in. There are so many different option to choose from for registered nurses. Don’t be discouraged if you have to search for work a bit at first. This is to be expected, especially now in the current economic situation. However, you are licensed now and you will find work that you enjoy. Perhaps you can try a temp agency to get so more experience? I know that doesn’t sound attractive and may not be what you expected, but consider it in the mean time. In “the mean time” is until you get what it is that you are after. Travel nursing can also be a great experience for a new nurse while you wait for your ideal position.

In any case, don’t sit back and do nothing because of a little economic resistance. If you want something you need to go after it. Dialysis clinics, skilled nursing facilities and assisted living communities for senior are a just a few places you may be able to get in some legitimate hours as an RN and continue getting that experience that is so very needed. Experienced nurses are almost always preferred of new nurses. From a business perspective, you want to hire someone that fits right into the team with little or no management. This is especially true during crunch time. So where ever you can get the hours and hence the experience do it.

In addition to getting experience anywhere and everywhere you can, you need to be furthering your education. In health care, the more educated you are, the more money you will make and the more option you will have to choose from. Taking certification courses like ACLS PALS and Trauma Nursing Critical Care is also a good idea to boost your resume. Completing nursing school is simply the tip of the iceberg now days. There are tons on new RN grads just like you after the same position. Get the edge by getting experience and furthering your education.
